We have POS 2016 and purchased the Honeywell scanner from Intuit so we can process sales using barcodes.
We tested the barcode scanner with a commercial UPC (from a calendar) and it works with POS, putting the code into the UPC field.

We created a barcode, in Excel using a barcode font, and attempted to scan it into one of our items. It wouldn't work.
I realize that UPC require numeric only, but our codes have to be alpha numeric. So we scanned it into the alternate lookup field and that doesn't work either.
