EFTPOS for taxi

How does Cabcharge Fareway EFTPOS System work?

The Cabcharge Fareway EFTPOS System is:
  • an Australian designed mobile electronic payments system;
  • more than just a mobile payment facility. Fareway is specifically designed for Taxis, it is fixed to the Taxi and links into other Taxi equipment to ensure passenger and corporate financial security;
  • provides passengers with a record of all fare transactions; the customer receipt includes the taxi number, radio network, pickup, destination, date and time of trip for subsequent reference, for example, for financial records or to easily track lost property.
With in excess of 30 million credit and debit cards in use, Australians are paying by EFTPOS for millions of transactions each week. As we continue to move towards a "cashless society", people rely on EFTPOS to pay for all their goods and services. Paying by the Cabcharge Fareway EFTPOS System is like any other purchase, including the use of cards with contactless and chip and pin features. The following credit and debit cards are accepted electronically: A taxi with Cabcharge Fareway EFTPOS System on board is fitted with:
  • a fixed PIN Pad unit;
  • a communications unit;
  • a printer.
The PIN pad operates using menu driven instructions. The back-lit pad display provides step-by-step instructions for drivers on how to pay fares using Cabcharge Charge Cards and eTICKETs and all EFTPOS debit and credit cards. The communication unit, using the Telstra GPRS wireless data network, controls the flow of transaction details and approvals back and forth between the taxi and the banks for EFTPOS transactions and Cabcharge for charge cards and eTICKETs. It also interfaces with Taximeters and provides GPS location information ensuring an accurate and detailed passenger record. Cabcharge provides its account holders with a record of all fare transactions; the customer statement for each period includes the fare amount, taxi number, taxi network, date and time of the trip. The printer enables the driver to provide all passengers with a record of individual fare transactions. The customer receipt includes the taxi number, taxi network, pickup, destination, date and time of trip for subsequent reference, for example, for financial records or to easily track lost property.
