To have access to gift-card functionality for your shop, the gift card module must be enabled in your Account Settings.

On the Main Menu click Settings > Getting Started and at the top of the screen click Optional Modules.
Click the Gift Cards checkbox if you didn't select it when you set up your shop.

To purchase gift cards

Barcode requirements

To avoid compatibility issues for use with Lightspeed Retail, gift card barcodes must be produced using either the EAN-13 or UPC-A standard and must adhere to these requirements:

EAN-13 standard is the preferred barcode standard.

Must begin with the numbers 23. For example, 009 (with 9 being the check digit that is calculated based on the previous barcode numbers).
It is recommended that you add a random prefix after the 23 to make it less likely that cards from another business could be used at your business. For example, you can choose 1234 as your random code, which makes the number 007, with 7 as the check digit.
Each card must have a unique number. This is usually accomplished by printing cards sequentially. For example, if the first card is 007 you print 500 cards the last card would be 999, with 9 as the check digit.

UPC-A standard If you can't print EAN-13 barcodes, you can use the UPC-A standard instead.

The UPC-A barcode must begin with a 4.
It is recommended that you add a random prefix after the 4 to make it less likely that cards from another business could be used at yours. For example, you can choose 1234 as your random code making the number 06, with 6 as the check digit that is calculated based on the previous barcode numbers.
Each card must have a unique number. This is usually accomplished by printing cards sequentially. For example, if the first card is 06 you print 500 cards the last card would be 98, with 8 as the check digit.
